Semiotic Memorabilia is a sculpture series that investigates and corrupts the form and aesthetics of public signage. It's my hope that by generating a library of icons that just barely avoid interpretation, I can highlight the absurdity and chaos inherent in the systems we interact with every day.
What makes the visual language of this universe so different from that of our own?
The symbols are attatched to the steel sign backing via small magnets embedded in the back of the plywood symbols... I don't envision this as a tool for user interaction (although I'm not opposed to it) but rather a way for me to create multiple works from one sign base.
